The tree house featured in my newest upcoming book, GIRL OF MINE, is inspired by an actual tree house that my father built on his property. It is AMAZING!
On occasion my parents let friends use their property for a wedding reception. The bride climbs to the top and throws her bouquet from the highest level.
Even as an adult, the tree house calls to me and brings out my inner child. I want to spend hours wandering the many levels while imagining grand adventures in my head.
When my siblings and I were young, my Dad promised to build us a play house. He had impressive plans for making it into a storybook cottage, similar to what Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs lived in.
Time passed, life interfered, and the play house was never built.
Then the play house was going to make an appearance for my children, his grandchildren.
But, alas, it wasn't meant to be.
Now my children have children. My father is retired and lives on property. He still has plans to build the play house.
The tree house took precedence, however, and was created by my father and one of his grandchildren.
I think he has more than redeemed himself over the play house promise, wouldn't you agree?
Now my grandchildren have an AMAZING place to play when they visit.
(And my adult children . . . and me! Let's face it, you're never too old to enjoy an amazing tree house!)

And now, the tree house has made its way into one of my books.
It has made an impression on me, no doubt!
You might even say Jill and Luke fall in love in the tree house.
It's a great place for a budding romance.

I love that tree house! I would have a nice comfy hammock and read all day in it! I can't wait for Girl of Mine!
ReplyDeleteSeveral of the grandchildren that live close haul sleeping bags up to the highest level and camp out all night. They've also had several slumber parties in the tree house. They do have hammocks set up in the forest part of their property, but the tree house just has tables and chairs set up on each level. I'll have to put in a request for a hammock inside the tree house! Good idea! It would be a perfect spot to read! But then my parents would never see me and I don't get to visit very often. They are in Oregon and I'm in the high plains of Texas. I guess that's why I'm obsessed with the beauty of their property. It's truly an oasis. (I didn't grow up there, this is where they retired.)

ReplyDeleteI didn't plan on adding the tree house into this book, it just sort of came to me as I was writing. And it ended up being an integral part of the plot. I love showcasing my dad's amazing work. Landscaping is my dad's hobby and he has done incredible things with their property. It makes me smile to see the tree house incorporated into one of my books. I love adding personal details!

ReplyDeleteIt's not a prominent feature in the book, and yet it ended up being important to the plot. It's a little tidbit that ends up being monumental.
