THE WEEKEND

This has been a memorable and eventful weekend! My daughter came to visit. She is five months pregnant with a VERY healthy baby boy! Amazing news. (see her story here) We attended her best friend's baby shower. They've been best friends since high school and are now pregnant at the same time!

We couldn't resist taking a 'pregnant bellies touching' picture! (my daughter is on the right)

I had great fun baby clothes shopping with my daughter! Love buying cute clothes for my new grandson!
Then we ate at Applebees.
(After all that shopping we needed sustenance!)

As for my bedroom repairs, (we had a pipe burst in a bedroom wall) we are almost nearing completion! Of course, one thing has led to another--we didn't just re-paint one bedroom wall, we re-painted the entire bedroom, which led to a massive clean out, which led to new bedding, new chairs, etc, etc. We're doing the wall paper border this week--and I promise to post my idea for covering the wall paper border, if it works!

I really like chocolate brown and hunter green together! I'll post more pics when it's finished!

AND . . . are you ready for this? My dad had a skirmish with a chain saw. Yep, while cutting wood, the chain saw got away from him and hit his ankle! OUCH! The doctor said he was very lucky to not have hit an artery. He has a long recovery ahead, but thank goodness he's OKAY.

These are his pants . . . after my mom washed out the blood.
Yikes!

Lastly, my proof copy for my upcoming novel, For Nick, arrived!! I love this cover! (Joshua's Folly is coming soon!)

How was your weekend?

Grand Finale Celebration!

On tour with Prism Book Tours

Feeling forgetful? Can't remember where the heck you set down your keys? Your glasses?

We've all been there.

But . . . what if you forgot your life?

What if that life wasn't worth remembering?

In spite of the happy cover, I HAVE PEOPLE deals with the sensitive issue of domestic abuse. It is about learning to recognize a good man versus a bad one. It's about second chances and finding love, real love.

The overpowering message behind I HAVE PEOPLE is that verbal, mental, and physical abuse is NOT OKAY! EVER!

Check out the tour and then read Holly's story. It will change your life.

The Book:

I Have PeopleI Have People
by Taylor Dean

Holly Sinclair is happily married to the love of her life, Gabriel. Young and in love, Holly hopes to have their first child soon. Of course, Gabriel wants to wait till Holly’s health is restored, much to Holly’s dismay. She feels perfectly fine. So what if she just woke up from an eight-month coma? So what if some of her memories are missing? She remembers Gabe and that’s all that matters, right?

That is, until HE enters her life again . . . she forgot about HIM.

It's been a great Tour, exploring the origins and themes of I Have People by Taylor Dean. In case you missed part of the tour... here it is, one more time:  links to all the great guest posts and reviews with quotes...

Review of Lancaster House and The Middle Aisle

This is a FABULOUS review of both Lancaster House and The Middle Aisle! This was posted at Laura's blog entitled FUONLYKNEW.  If you are interested in entering the giveaway, go on over to her blog and check it out! (giveaway ends on May 3) Thanks for the great reviews, Laura!

To find out why Zoe tried to kill herself, why she is under the care of Dr. Channing at Serenity HIlls, and why she is suspected of killing two men, we have to go back to the beginning.

When Zoe first laid eyes on Lancaster House, she knew she had to have it.

She couldn’t wait to get started on the restoration. Couldn’t wait to bring the old house back to its former glory.

The work was slow but rewarding. She was doing one room at a time. She would go to bed exhausted and rise to start again the next morning.

After five hours of scraping and sanding the bannister, she took a lunch break. When she returned to finish up, she couldn’t believe her eyes. It was finished!

She told herself maybe she was confused, being so tired and all.

But the next night it happened again. She didn’t get the wall papering done.

In the morning, when she came downstairs, it was finished.

Now she panicked, racing through the house, but no one was there.

Not one to be scared, she knows she can figure this out.

Stop standing here like a ninny and figure this out. There has to be a logical explanation.

But there isn’t. And she is beginning to think the former owner, Andre Lancaster, is still living in the house. Either that or she is going crazy.

~

Mini Excerpt for ya:

“You can see me?” he asked again, his tone urgent.

“Yes,” she whispered, unable to find her voice.

For several seconds he simply stared at her, his eyes smoldering. She trembled under his gaze, her bottom lip quivering. One hand reached up, his motions slow, and cupped her cheek. He let out his breath and closed his eyes as if the feel of her did something to him.

“I won’t hurt you Zoe.”

~

But how can that be? He’s been dead for many, many years.

A really fun part of this story is the language. The slang from the 1920′s is quirky and I enjoyed reading how Zoe figured out what Andre meant by some of the sayings.

Stuff like giggle water is alcohol. Makes sense. And Bank’s closed which means no kissing.

After you finish reading Lancaster House you tell me what you think. Is Zoe crazy?

Did she just make up Andre and their passionate affair to keep from being alone?

Is Dr. Channing right in that ghosts don’t exist?

So many questions and an ending that will let you decide, or not.

I adored Zoe and Andre and want a Lancaster House of my own.

5 Stars for this haunting love story.

And it continues in The Middle Aisle

Hmm, how do I tell you about this book without spoiling it. It’s hard to review the next book in a series.

In Lancaster House, you are left wondering if Andre is real or a ghost. Is Zoe crazy as a loon, desperate for any kind of love, or is her house haunted?

In The Middle Aisle, you will still be wondering. You may think at some point, “Oh, now I see.” But then, as you read further, you are in doubt again.

Taylor Dean has written a series like none other. You are kept “in the dark,” figuratively, throughout both books.

I don’t recall ever being so unsure of my own conclusions in a book.

The love between Zoe and Andre is very real and so endearing. But is Andre real? If he isn’t, then is their love real?

~

Mini Excerpt

“You’re imagination intrigues and fascinates me, Zoe,” Wade commented, his voice cracking. He cleared his throat and ran his hands over his face. “Why don’t we take a break?” he suggested and quickly exited the room, stumbling on his own feet as he left.

It wasn’t possible, it just wasn’t possible, he thought, as his mind wandered to that moment…. Turns out it was possible, it just wasn’t real…

~

And if Andre is real, then that makes the alluring, malevolent Adelle real as well.

Aah! I can’t say I ever really figured it out. But, I don’t have to. I feel it is up to each reader to decide for themselves. And whether you figure it out or not doesn’t matter. It is still a love story for all time. One that goes beyond the physical, to the otherworldly.

5 Stars for keeping me wondering.

That makes a total of 10 Stars for Lancaster House and The Middle Aisle.

I had these books on my kindle, but when I saw a giveaway on Sherry’s blog fundinmental, I just had to try to win the paperbacks, and I did!! Thanks so much Sherry.

Since then, I’ve went on to read Taylor’s “i have people.”

And I’m getting ready to start reading Sierra. Next up will be the upcoming new release of Joshua’s Folly.

Thanks so much for your lovely books Taylor.

As long as you keep writing, I’ll keep reading!

New Reviews

My I Have People Book Tour continues to go well. Here are some amazing new reviews! The Grand Finale Blast starts tomorrow!

This review of I Have People is from Aimee at Getting your read on:

Wow. I was interested in reading this book from the beginning when I signed on to be a part of this blog tour but I had no idea I would love it so much. That took me by surprise. I love when a book does that. It's awesome.

I. Love. I Have People. This book kept me engaged the whole way. The way the author flipped from the present to the past to tell the whole story was so good. You might think it would be choppy or hard to follow but it really wasn't. I think the way the story unfolded was one of the best things about this book.

I fell in love with Holly and Gabe. Gabe is all that is sigh and swoon worthy. A true good guy in every sense. I wish I could tell you all the reasons that I love Gabe but I'm afraid I would ruin things. You'll just have to trust me and read this book.

I Have People deals with the very sensitive and serious subject matter of domestic abuse. Even though this is a weighty topic, the book never felt over done or bogged down in darkness. There were, of course, times when I cringed and my heart hurt for all the many women suffering from the many forms of domestic abuse. It is really heart breaking and so wrong. The subject matter is dealt with well in this book. Real without becoming consuming. Well done.

This next review is from JoyAnne at Deco my Heart:

Holly Sinclair awakens from 8 months in a coma and has lost most of her memory. She does have memories of her wonderful husband, Greg. He begins to recreate certain events in hopes of helping her regain her memory. It doesn't take Holly long to figure out he and her best friend are hiding information from her about the accident. When her memory does return she in shocked at what she remembers.

This is an emotional story of domestic abuse and recovery, wonderfully written with realistic characters, and it will stay with you long after you finish. How I wish women (and men) that are bring abused would seek help and realize they have "people" too. It made me angry, it's heartbreaking and stirred up memories of abuse I witnessed as a child in my home. Taylor handled the subject very well, I highly recommend this book to everyone!

The next review is from Emily at Mrs. Mommy Booknerd:

The cover is beautiful isn't it? I love the color and design...absolutely eye catching, right?! But what is contained inside is even more impressive. Dean creates a story that is not only engaging, gritty and real, but Dean also stays true to the topic she is writing about. She gives her characters depth, dimension and a voice. I was simply pulled in right at the prologue and this wonderfully original, page turning novel kept me up well into the night. I nearly read it in one sitting. Dean is the real deal. She writes with purpose and a message and I just adored the book. With twists, turns and captivating characters this book is not to be missed. The story is about serious matters, but it is a story that needs to be told. I applaud Dean for doing it right and giving a voice to this all too common problem. You are intrigued now, right??? So go get the book and dig in!!! I rate it 5 stars!

And finally this review is from Kayla of Green Mountain Couple:

My Opinion

This book is AMAZINGLY well written. I couldn't put this book DOWN! I can't get into telling you too much about the plot or it will give the book away (and we don't want that do we?).
Needless to say I cried with Holly and laughed with her too. Holly grew up in many foster homes as a young child, with no people of her own. This is Holly's story of how her life changes from having no people to "I Have People". Holly's story is full of happiness, love and terror.

The suspense of what was going to happen next, got me "hook, line and sinker". The author did a great job developing the plot and characters. This is a must read book, I highly recommend it. As a warning this book does deal with ABUSE, so if you can't/don't want to read about that this is not a book for you.

THE WEEKEND

If you read last week's post about a pipe bursting in our wall, then you know we had our work cut out for us this week. I bet you can guess what our weekend was like!

Yep, we spent the weekend painting our master bedroom.

Here's the scoop: Last Saturday, a pipe burst in our bedroom wall. The plumber had to cut a hole in the wall in order to repair the pipe.

So, why re-paint the entire bedroom? First of all, it was needed. We've re-painted every bedroom in the house--except ours! Secondly, when the plumber drilled into our concrete slab during the repair process, a thick concrete dust wafted about the room, covering EVERYTHING. And guess what the plumber neglected to do?

Cover the furniture with plastic.

Even my bed and bedding was covered with dust.

As you can imagine, the clean-up has been extensive. Washing and then painting the walls has really helped. (Yes, my hubby complained, and yes, the company doing the repairs have made amends.)

As for me, when I paint, I cover everything!

My hubby likes a DARK bedroom or he can't sleep. Even with the hunter green walls, he still needs room darkening drapes. We chose an even deeper shade of green for the new paint color and I like it. (notice the hole is all patched up! Still drying, but it'll be painted tomorrow!)

BTW, the wall paper border that we thought was AMAZING in 1994 will soon be toast.

I'll post more pictures of the finished bedroom when it's complete. Right now it's still a work in progress.

So, that was my weekend. It was a lot of work, but kinda fun for this HGTV addict.

How was your weekend?

More WONDERFUL I Have People Reviews

My I Have People Book Tour is going well. I've received two more five-star reviews! How amazing is that! To an author, it's the most amazing thing in the world!

Seriously. When you let an author know how much you love their book, you have made their day. Maybe even their month and year!

My books are my 'babies.' I've spent hours upon hours of my life perfecting them, editing them, thinking through plot lines, developing dialogue and personality traits.

Hence, it's extremely rewarding to hear that someone else loved something you wrote! I can't even explain the feeling.

Elation. Ecstasy.

These words only touch on the feeling.

Here are my recent five-star reviews:

(Did I mention that I LOVE these reviews? Special thanks to Christy and Laura! Read their reviews here or check out their wonderful blogs!)

From Christy of Christy's Cozy Corner:

My Review:

I love Taylor Dean's books. They always feel so real. The characters are realistic and her style of writing makes her books easy to fall in love with.

I Have People is a story that is both beautiful and painful at the same time. It is a story of love, abuse, and deep friendships. Parts of it are so hard to read because the abuse is so real, and Holly is so trusting. This story makes you want to reach in and take control of the situation. I wanted to shout out warnings constantly!

I'm sure we have all jumped head first into a situation without thinking much about what we were doing before we did it. Maybe it was jumping into a relationship with someone without really knowing who they were or maybe it was something as simple as eating a whole row of Oreos....you know you've done it! Knowing this makes it so easy to see how Holly got herself into a relationship where she did not really know the person first.

It is so easy to be in love with being in love. You get mushy feelings and want to be around the person you are in love with all of the time. You ignore any warning signs or imperfections because this is the person of your dreams! But they may end up being your nightmare. Holly is human and makes the same mistakes we all make in some way or another.

Thankfully, Holly is rescued by a deep and lasting love. A selfless and sacrificing love. Though her memories may be impaired, the rescuing love she experiences is as real as anything could ever be.

As with all of Taylor Dean's books, I highly recommend I Have People to anyone who loves a great story! I was captivated from the start and couldn't put this book down. It takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. One minute you're feeling giddy with happiness and the next you're filled with dread! It's a great ride...take it!

This next one is from Laura of FUONLYKNEW:

My Review
From the synopsis and the prologue you get what this book is about, or do you?
Yes, it’s about domestic abuse, about spousal abuse. A tough subject to write about.
Taylor does it as gently as she can. You read about the abuse Holly suffers at her husband’s beefy fists. The physical and emotional terror he inflicts.
You also read about Holly’s courage, her spirit that rises up when she’s had enough.
She awakens from a coma 8 months later and the first thing she says is “Gabriel.”
Where is her angel, her husband.
This is where you discover you don’t quite know where the story is going.
There is a mystery to be delved into. One that Holly’s husband , Gabriel, and her best friend, Angela are keeping hidden from her.
On several occasions, Holly catches them whispering when she enters the room.
I was waiting for her to get mad, to finally yell at them to tell her what they were hiding from her.
She knows they won’t tell her. Insisting she must remember on her own, when her mind is ready.
At first I thought she gave in too easily. But the more I thought about, I could see where she was probably terrified to remember. She knew it would be painful.
One scene I really liked was where Holly was explaining about her imagination and how it worked.
“Well it goes something like this. I’m in the elevator, staring at the back of a woman’s red coat, and I begin to think that maybe I should paint my living room wall red which leads to thinking that I really need to vacuum the living room, which leads to wondering what I’ll do this weekend…….” I’m just like that! My mother always told me, I think too much.
I adore Gabriel. He really is the boy scout Angela accuses him of being.
And who wouldn’t want a friend like Angela. She’s sweet and funny and a loyal friend. I’d like to read her story. And I’d like to get to know her pack of brothers too, especially Dimitri.
Maybe we’ll here from these characters again.
Until then, I urge you to read i have people. You’ll cry, you’ll laugh, you’ll want to kick someone, but most importantly, you’ll want to hug someone.
You’ll want to hug “your people.”
5 Stars for i have people
While I received this book to review, I went ahead and bought it so I could read it on my kindle. I have most of Taylor Dean’s books as paperbacks and will soon be adding this one to my bookshelf. Her covers are beautiful and when I love a book I have to be able to hold it. I’ll be adding more of Taylor’s books to my shelves as she releases them. Each and every one:)

THE WEEKEND (TO INCLUDE MY NEW BOOK TRAILER FOR SIERRA!)

The weekend started out good. My hubby and I went to a cute little 'hole in the wall' local restaurant on Friday night with another couple. The food was 'home cookin' good.' My favorite thing was that while you are waiting for your dinner, they serve cake! Yep, they serve dessert first! What a concept! My kind of place! They also had this sign hanging up on their wall--and I had to take a picture of it.

If you have trouble reading it, it says, "Remember Stressed spelled backwards is Desserts! Did you know that? I didn't! But I love it!

We planned on Saturday being a relaxing day. It started out great. Then a pipe decided to burst in our bedroom wall! We could literally hear the water rushing out. I grabbed towels and quickly began to mop up the water that was slowly sneaking into the bathroom from under the baseboards while my hubby ran to turn off the main water valve outside. Talk about a moment of panic!

Yikes! What a mess! All I can say is, thank goodness we were home when it happened! Otherwise we would've come home to a flood! As it turned out, my hubby heard it happen and we had the water off within five minutes, maybe less. (it seemed like forever!)

In between cleaning up the mess, I sat at my computer working on my very first book trailer for SIERRA. I haven't posted it anywhere else as of yet, so you're the first to view it! Enjoy! Here it is:

Let me know what you think of it!

How was your weekend? What did you do?

Review of I Have People!

Right now, I'm loving my reviews! That doesn't always happen, so I'm enjoying it while I can!

Image courtesy of [Stuart Miles] / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

Below is a great five-star review of I Have People from Mel's Shelves! Thanks Melanie! To view it on her blog, go here.

To follow along on my I Have People Book Tour, go here.

I loved this book! It starts out as a nice, sweet love story, even though you know there's
something that's being kept from Holly. After Holly wakes up from an 8 month coma, Gabe is so careful with her and works hard to re-create their life before she went into a coma. Her best friend, Angela, is also there to help her out but neither of them will tell Holly how the accident happened or jog her memory--they tell her she needs to recover her memories on her own. She is happy and life is perfect and then HE comes into the story and there's a different tone. His name is Cal and he's likable enough, at first, and then reveals his true self after they get married. I really felt for Holly as she was humiliated by Cal over and over yet hung in there and acted like nothing was wrong. She tried to convince everyone she was clumsy and it got harder to make up stories as time went on. As she learns more about his dark secrets, though, she realizes that she needs to leave asap. I was frustrated that she didn't just leave but understand why she wanted to wait. At times it was hard to read how Cal treated Holly and I thought Taylor Dean did a great job of describing the abuse, where you could feel Holly's pain, without being too graphic. I'm so grateful that I have never personally had to deal with domestic abuse and I know that there are worse stories out there than Holly's and hers was hard enough for me to read.

In the Launch Tour post, which you can read here, Taylor Dean addresses the fact that the cover looks so happy and cheery but the book deals with the sensitive issue of domestic abuse, and the overall message of the book is a great one. I also love the title and it's a bit of a roller coaster for her as she realizes she has people that care about her to wonder if they really have her best interests at heart after all.

I was excited to get this guest post, The Worth of a Soul. (View it here.) This is one of my favorite conversations from the book, too. Once Holly's memory returns, she has a hard time believing that someone as wonderful as Gabe would give her the time of day. And Gabe--Sigh!! I loved him from the beginning and he gets even more wonderful once you learn the entire story. Be sure to read all of the guest posts during the tour because Taylor Dean adds lots of extra insights into her books and characters.

This book kept my interest from the first page and didn't slow down. I highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys reading about second chances and finding real and lasting love.

Content: I personally consider this a clean romance but will alert you that there is some passion involved (but no details)! And there's some swearing (but not much).

A Fabulous Five-Star Review of I HAVE PEOPLE!

Bear with me, when I receive an awesome review, I have to share it.

Listen, reviews are tough. I've received my share of not-so-great reviews. So, when I receive a good one it's the most exciting thing in the world!!

Special thanks to Sherry of Fundinmental for reading and reviewing I Have People! To read the review on her blog, go here.

MY REVIEW

I can’t help but eat up taylor dean’s books, like the M & Ms that I love. She makes me so tense, sitting on the edge of my chair, racing through the pages. An amazing writer. She can tell a story that makes you hold your breath, as you wait in suspense for the tale to play out.

“He’d finally killed her,” went through her mind as her body struggled to bring her back to the land of the living.
I Have People
“I have people, people who care about me. You two are my favorite people.”

Eight months of her life gone, but now Angela, Gabe and Holly were together. She knew they were keeping secrets, but the amnesia and her physical therapy kept her so busy, she would forget about pursuing it.

She had risen from the dead, like a modern day Lazarus. She had to learn to walk again, and she mixed up words, becoming confused. The amnesia had stripped her of memories of herself, but the memories of her love for Gabriel were still there.

She would awake in the night, alone and afraid. She knew something wasn’t quite right, but couldn’t figure out what it was. She wanted Gabriel with her, but he insisted on sleeping separately until she recovered.

Gabriel was doing his best to recreate their dates. She thought he was trying to help her remember. He made her feel like a princess, made her feel safe, warm and happy. She couldn’t keep her hands off him, so strong was the love she felt for him.

When she awoke in the morning, the first thing she thought of was Gabriel, the first thing she said was his name.

They got married, went on a honeymoon and bought a new house to begin their life together. She thought that life couldn’t get any better, except for her desire to have a child.

Gabriel kissed her goodbye as he headed off to work. She noticed a car parked across the street, but quickly forgot about it. She went to the grocery store and saw it again.

That night, she answered the door and the glass she was holding dropped, shattering at her feet. She knew the evil looking man at her door and the memories of HIM came rushing back.

I think I spent more time deleting what I wrote, than actually writing it. I did not want to give the book away, so it was very difficult to figure out what to tell you. This book may not be for everyone, but I feel everyone should read it. Sometimes all it takes to make a difference in someone’s life, is to let them know you care.

An amazing story of life and how the people around us can help us overcome the bad in our life and enable us to rise above it.

taylor dean can weave a story that will keep you on pins and needles. As Holly remembers, tears form in my eyes. The suspense and anticipation of what is to come, makes my heart beat faster, my palms sweat and chills run up and down my spine.

To write about domestic abuse cannot be easy. The fear and terror a person experiences as they are being terrorized by someone they love and trust, must be one of the worst things that can happen to a woman. taylor dean handles it with style and grace.

Gabriel is a boy scout. Squeaky clean, kind, gentlemanly, helps people, courteous and polite. He doesn’t even curse, helps her put on her coat………pulls out the chair for her.

He would pull the chair out…………………….

“You need to learn to fall gracefully.”

“Why do you always hurt yourself? You’re so damn breakable.”

This is another roller-coaster ride, compliments of taylor dean. The range of emotions she covers go from heaven to hell, and everything in between.

I can’t remember if I received this book in return for a review, but it doesn’t really matter. I want to read anything and everything she writes and I will always review it. So, stay tuned for more.
